Nearly half of all health center patients receive health insurance coverage from Medicaid and, in 2016, health centers served one-in-six Medicaid beneficiaries nationally. This data-driven fact sheet summarizes health centers’ role in the Medicaid program, including providing quality care and cost savings as well as the importance of adequate Medicaid payment. This fact sheet also provides a state-by-state summary of the Medicaid population served by health centers and the proportion of total Medicaid expenditures going to health centers.
